Manassas, VA (October 17, 2011) The newly formed Prince William County Parks Foundation will hold it's debut fundraising event on Saturday, October 22, 2011, at the Hellwig Park Universal Miracle Field, from 11:00am to 2:00pm. This fun-filled family day will have games, prizes and food available for purchase. Entertainment will be provided by the Ben Lomond Community Center's dancers, and the Prince William Community Band's Brass Jazz Ensemble.
Special coupon drawings will be held at 1:00pm, for prizes which include an iPad2, a Dell Laptop computer, 2 tickets to any 2011-12 performance at the Hylton Performing Arts Center, gift certificates to Tim's Rivershore, Potomac Nationals fan-gear and 2 ten-game flex ticket plans for the Potomac Nationals 2012 season. Coupons for the drawings are free and may be picked up at designated Park Authority facilities, with a limit of seven coupons per person.
Participating Park Authority facilities are the Ben Lomond Community Center, Chinn Aquatics & Fitness Center, Sharron Baucom Dale City Rec Center, Lake Ridge Park, Veterans Memorial Park, Prince William Golf Course and the Park Admin Building and the Mini Library at Hellwig Park.
Proceeds from this event are earmarked for The Universal Miracle Field at George Hellwig Park. This facility - the first in Prince William County - will provide a state-of-the-art recreation facility suitable for children and adults with disabilities who wish to play baseball and other sports but due to their physical challenges cannot use artificial or natural turf fields. We are very pleased to announce that this new sports field has been accepted in the Miracle Field League, a Nationally recognized program that offers youth and adults with special needs the same opportunities to play baseball. The Parks Foundation's goal is to suppliment the funds raised by the community to construct this complex. So far, funds raised by the community have provided the initial field preparation, sub-surface, soft coating, accessable sidewalks, fencing, dug-outs and bleachers. Future funds raised will complete the project by adding restrooms, lighting, additional seating and ultimately a second field.

The Park Foundation is a separate 501c3 non-profit foundation. The Foundation does not receive any public funds from either the Park Authority or the Prince William County Government. The Foundation is led by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of community and business leaders with an interest in preserving and improving Prince William County's parks. The board provides the Park Foundation with leadership, support and oversight of its activities and finances. Board members also participate directly in fundraising activities.
